Operating Room Technician
Duties and responsibilities: Operating room technicians, also referred to as surgical technicians, work with surgeons to facilitate surgery before, during and after a procedure. They must sterilize supplies and be knowledgeable of the tools needed to help surgeons Before surgery, operating room technicians prepare and transport patients, set up equipment, surgical instruments, and other supplies in the operating room, and help surgeons scrub and dress. They also hand instruments, sponges and needles to surgeons and perform other miscellaneous tasks as directed, such as operating lights and suction machines.
Education: The first step is earn a High School Diploma. Then earn a Certificate or Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology. To get a certification you have to pass an exam for the surgical technology program. Finally all you have to do now is to find a place that will accept you for the job.
Salary: 45,960 annually
Demand for this profession: the projected job growth for this profession is about 15% between 2014 – 2024.
Reflection: In my opinion I don’t want to be in this job because it doesn't really interest me all that much. I don’t want to just be preparing the area for surgeons to perform surgery on people for the rest of my life. I want to become something more adventurous. Something that help animals not people. Animals will always be kind and loving while people are not.
